Broadway's Tony-winning Billy Elliot is welcoming a new actor to the title role, 13-year-old Giuseppe Bausilio. Bausilio will become the 14th Billy to perform on Broadway, and will alternate the role with current cast members Tade Biesinger, Joseph Harrington, Peter Mazurowski and Dayton Tavares. Current star Jacob Clemente will play his final performance as Billy on July 3; Bausilio’s first performance will be announced soon.
The Swiss-born Bausilio was one of the original Billys in the Chicago production of Billy Elliot. He went on to join the national touring production and has played the role in 10 cities across the country since the tour began in October 2010. His parents have two ballet schools, and he is trained in jazz, flamenco, hip-hop and tap. He has won dance competitions in Switzerland, France, Italy and the U.S. His dance credits include The Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty and Coppelia at the State Theatre of Bern, along with the operas Mazzepa and Falstaff.
In addition to Biesinger, Mazurowski, Tavares and Harrington, Bausilio joins a cast that includes Emily Skinner as Mrs. Wilkinson, Gregory Jbara as Dad, Carole Shelley as Grandma and Will Chase as Tony.
